Bono Calls For United States Of Africa

Rocker-turned-activist Bono has called for the creation of a United States of Africa, insisting a united continental identity could help the African nations to resolve their internal conflicts. The U2 frontman - who flew to Japan to participate in a major development conference last week (begs26May08) - has urged the country leaders in the continent to turn to the U.S. as an example of unification. A United States of Africa "would be the dream" in the long term, Bono told Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun on Tuesday . He says, "Irish people used to always have a little giggle when they would see Americans saluting their flags in schools, and then the whole lot standing there, singing the flag thing. "But as you get to know a little bit more about things, you start to think, ah, there's so many different tribal groups in the United States, that to create a national identity of that size, they had to really work at this kind of patriotism." Inspired by the European Union, the African Union was created in 2002 - but critics say the order has lacked the money needed to take effective action in the continent's conflict. It intervened in the war-torn western Sudanese region of Darfur, but has since surrendered leadership to the United Nations in a bid to form a unified peacekeeping body.

Gwyneth Paltrow - Paltrows Birthday Cookery Lesson

GWYNETH PALTROW was once given a cookery lesson with top British chef JAMIE OLIVER as a birthday present.

The Hollywood actress was delighted with the gift, which saw the culinary expert come to her home and give her an evening of private tutorage.

Paltrow learned a host of kitchen skills and insists it is one of the best things she has ever done.

Paltrow is trying out her new skills in her own cookery show, which she is filming in Spain alongside Michelin-starred chef Mario Batali.

Spike to Clint: "We're Not on a Plantation!"

Director Spike Lee has done what no one thought would ever happen. He's brought back Dirty Harry!
Clint Eastwood Spike Lee
After complaints from Spike Lee claiming that Clint Eastwood didn't include black soldiers in his two Iwo Jima films, Eastwood decided to come back on the controversial director with some words of his own saying, " A guy like him should shut his face."

Lee then further fueled the drama fire saying, "First of all, the man is not my father and we're not on a plantation either. He's a great director ... I didn't personally attack him. And a comment like "A guy like that should shut his face," come on Clint, come on. He sounds like an angry old man right there."

Missing your afternoon nap would make you cranky too!
